During the Middle Ages, one of the most cherished types of books was the Book of Hours . These personal prayer and devotionals were widely used across medieval Europe, and many have survived to this day. Among the most intriguing examples of this genre is the Book of Hours of the Seven Deadly Sins , created in Flanders between 1460 and 1470. This exquisitely illuminated manuscript stands out not only for its intricate artwork but also for its striking miniatures—seven in total—that vividly depict the Seven Deadly Sins. What makes this particular manuscript even more exceptional is that it is the only known 15th-century Book of Hours to focus so extensively on this specific religious theme.
